Fear, anxiety, loneliness, pain, sadness, suffering...

All of these feelings are part of life. But sometimes it becomes too difficult to carry on, to keep fighting, to see a light in the end of the tunnel.

Life can bring about many wonderful experiences and opportunities, but also present us with great challenges. Stress, loneliness, depression, anger, these are all examples of what we have to deal almost on a daily basis. And sometimes with these difficulties come the feeling of inadequacy, of fighting against all and everyone on our own.

As a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and counsellor working in London I have seen my fair share of people struggling with their lives, feeling held back by emotions and thoughts that sometimes are hard even to be named. But as people thrive for independence and freedom, sometimes it also becomes difficult to seek help, to realise that we can't make it on our own.

Friends and family do play a very important role in helping and us, but at times the sympathy and support may feel like a burden to others. Not just because people have their own problems or may run out of patience or empathy, but simply because in times of trouble part of ourselves want to be left alone, to suffer and sulk on our own, feeling sorry for ourselves. We all have been there.

That is why it takes courage to realise that we all need help from time to time. And it may be of great help to see someone who is qualified and trained to listen in a non-judgemental way, who is not afraid to challenge the illusion of stability and control that we often create for ourselves, specially in times of difficulty.

Talking to a psychotherapist or counsellor can help.
